Chrono Trigger Characters

Crono

Crono is the main character of the story and remains silent throughout the whole game excluding one of the endings. He wields a Katana and becomes a master of Lightning Magic. He is very brave and won't hesistate to help others. As luck may have it, he is chosen by Fate to stop Lavos and save the future from the destruction of Lavos.

In Battle: In battle, Crono is a well-balanced character. In fact, he's the best character in the game. His techs are balanced between Magic and Physical, and are always useful.

Lucca

Lucca is Crono's best friend and the resident science geek of Truce Village. She shares her dad, Taban's, love of science and loves to invent all kinds of machines and weapons. She loves to think that science can solve everything and it's practically her religion. She created the machine that started the entire story and is always there for Crono.

In Battle: In battle, Lucca is a weak attack, but next to Magus, she has the highest magical ability in the game. All of her Techs are magic-based, except for Hypno Wave, which causes a Sleep to all of the enemies. Hypno Wave is very useful against bosses that have multiple parts. Also, her techs attack all or an area of enemies. Her speed is slow, but that can be taken care of with Speed Tabs and accessories.

Marle

Marle bumped into Crono at the Millenial Fair and decided to tag along with him. Her true identity is Princess Nadia of Guardia Castle. She got tired of royal life and ran away. She is outgoing, persistent, and loud. She and her father don't see eye-to-eye, do to the fact that he just wants her to behave like a princess. She is in awe of Crono and, although sometimes she doesn't show it alot, Lucca.

In Battle: In battle, Marle is almost useless. She has the weakest physical attack and only has 2 offensive techs. All of her Techs except for the first 2 are magic. They are mostly healing spells, which are the best in the game, but offense-wise, she's useless. Her most useful abilities are Haste, which speeds up a character, and Life 2, which revives with all HP.

Weapon: Crossbow | Element: Water (Ice) | Time Period: Present - 1000 AD

Frog

Frog was once a knight for the Kingdom of Guardia, but was cursed and transformed into a Frog by Magus. Ever since, he has been coming and going as the personal bodyguard of Queen Leene. He has low self-esteem and whenever he fails at his duty, he disappears to wallow in self-pity, however, after meeting Crono, he regains his courage and won't stop at nothing to protect the Kingdom of Guardia. He awaits the day when he can defeat Magus and have his revenge.

In-Battle: Frog isn't a very useful character. It seems like he is supposed to be balanced like Crono, but his physical attack isn't that strong and his magic is weak. He has healing spells, but because his magic ability is low, they don't heal that much with the exception of Cure 2. He's useful if you're looking for someone with a physical tech that attacks only one enemy.

Robo

Robo was found in Proto Dome by the party diring the trip to the future. He was broken down, but Lucca repaired him. He helped them get through the door to return to their own time. Since there was nothing left for him in the future and he had no recollection of his past, he decided to travel with Lucca and the others. He is very polite and even though he is a robot, he gains emotions as he travels with the group.

In Battle: Robo is a very useful physical attack. He has no physical techs that attack multiple enemies, but he causes great damage with techs like Robo Tackle and Uzzi Punch. He has 2 healing techs, that heal some damage, but are weaker than Frog and Marle's healing techs. His Laser Spin causes Shadow damage and attacks all enemies, but it's weak against stronger opponents.

Ayla

Ayla is the chief of Ioka village in the Prehistoric Era. She is known as the strongest and bravest of the Ioka and has a keen talent for recognizing others with power. She leads her people in the fight against Azala and the evil Reptites. She is seeking allies to help her so that Azala doesn't have his way. Although she is very primitive, she can be very intelligent when needed.

In Battle: Ayla is your powerhouse. She has all physical attacks and all of them except for Rollo Kick are useful. She has the highest speed too and will most likely be able to attack at the start of battle. Her Kiss tech heals a small bit of HP, but heals status effects. Also, she can steal items from enemies and bosses, making her useful if you want rare items.

Weapon: Fists | Element: None | Time Period: Prehistoric - 65 Million BC

Magus

Magus is the evil wizard who led the Mystics in the war against Guardia in the Middle Ages. He is the one who transformed Frog into his current form. It is rumored that he is the creator of Lavos and was going to use him to destroy the humans before he was defeated. He actually came from the year 12,000 BC, but his story and intentions are a mystery.

In Battle: Magus is your magic powerhouse. He knows Level 2 spells of all elements and can protect against magic attacks with Magic Wall. His strongest attack, Dark Matter can equal or surpass Luminaire. Also, he can instantly defeat some normal enemies with Black Hole.
